Microgravity experiments

Microgravity experiments

Because going further in science will always be the path to knowledge, we believe in providing scientific teams with the best instruments to identify, analyze and characterize the phenomena being studied. In orbit or in other microgravity environments, Lambda-X is specialized in the development, manufacturing and qualification of accurate, robust, modular and efficient optical systems capable of withstanding the harsh constraints of space environments.

The interests of microgravity

Before the well-known the International Space Station ISS, microgravity experiments were performed onboard space vehicles. Just for example, fluid physics experiments were performed onboard Apollo 17 in Decembre 1972 flying back from the Moon. Then micro experiments have taken place onboard sounding rockets, retrievable satellites, space shuttle and of course the International Space Station ISS.  These hosting platforms gave the opportunity for many sciences teams to carry out their experiments in one very specific condition: the absence of gravity. More than a simple change of environment, the ISS allows the experimental validation of many phenomena where the gravity present on our planet slows down, hides or prevents the elaboration of precise models.  Last but not least, commercial NewSpace projects dedicated to microgravity experimentation are appearing around the globe, bringing with them a new boost in science performed in weightlessness.

Heat transfer, crystal growth or particles aggregation are only a few of these complex phenomena scientists wish to know more about. But other than advanced material research, many various science domains are taking benefit from microgravity environment. Areas such as space flight effect on human physiology or ecosystems also have a major interest for the scientific community.

Our purpose: your efficiency

Because we believe in innovation and science experimentation, Lambda-X engineers have been providing support to scientific teams participating to this fascinating but difficult story since 1996. Our goal is to offer specific optical diagnostic tools for each experiment. By designing instruments for applications in micro-gravity, our team has developed a wide knowledge of the constraints and specifics of such missions. This technical background is pushing us further to become experts and use our innovative mindset and know-how for the efficiency of your project.

From the first contact to the launch of the instrument, our team will stand by your side to provide proper input and specific advice. Together, we will overcome the technical challenges standing in the way of the development of your application.

Previous missions

Since 1996, Lambda-X has been taking parts in many majors missions. From heat transfer to liquid evaporation, without forgetting the formation of planets, we have cooperated with some of the biggest field actors in order to push science one step further. Here are a few of our achievements !
